Gas prices are tough on RV owners, but RVers are learning to save money to keep their RVs fueled up.

Cost-cutting methods range from fewer restaurants meals bought while traveling to working overtime for extra gas money. One RVing family bought a small car to tow behind their camper, used for trips away from the campsite.
The pinch of gas prices is not enough to make RVers quit traveling. The article quotes a statistic from the RVAA stating that 90 percent of RV owners intend to use their RVs as often or more frequently despite fuel costs.

I and my many RVing friends have cut back on driving our rigs due to the high cost of fuel. The oil companies and our president and congress members who support them are the modern day robber barons. Billions of dollars are being diverted into the pockets of oil companies while Congress and the President do nothing about it.

All the fun of RVing is gone when you drive 250 miles and find it costs approx. $120. out of pocket cash just for the gas let alone figure $2o or 30 per night site cost and add in cost and maintenance and depreciation of vehicle along with insurance— whheeeuuu mighty to much now . Park it or sell it if you can or maybe give it away ,probably the only way and go tenting in your subcompact car

Gas prices make travel difficult, true. We tow our small (13′) hardtop with an equally small SUV (Suzuki). The Suzuki gets decent gas mileage (about 20-21 MPG) when we don’t haul the trailer (which is about 98% of the miles), and it gets better gas mileage than a pickup when we do tow. It’s completely ridiculous how many people are convinced they absolutely must get that dually mega monster truck that can tow 72,000 lbs. up a 20% grade at 90 MPH when all they are doing is simple trailer hauling, usually a 5,000 lb. trailer. Folks, you are wasting tons and tons of gas money with that stupid truck day-in-and-day-out when you are NOT towing your trailer! Save money on your DOWN time (by using a smaller vehicle), save money on your vehicle purchase, use your head and take your DAILY savings eventually as a bonanza on your big camping outings. It makes MUCH more sense!
